Bruno Sanchez and Camille Wodling in In Utero

In Utero

Alice's pregnancy does not go as planned. Leo has already stopped asking himself what kind of father he might have become. In Utero tells the deep turmoil of a couple expecting a child with a fatal genetic disorder.

Moving on muffled feet

Writing the music for In Utero took long reflection and long argument. We had to move on muffled feet, as if we were in documentary cinema. The music had to translate what was happening inside the characters, Alice and Leo — a difficult dialogue between them that music could exorcise.

Underwater recordings

For the soundtrack I chose to record part of the score underwater. Both as a nod to the film's title, and to express Alice and Leo's state of shock and loss.

The soundtrack was mixed by Vincent Barcelo at Alhambra Studios, with the support of Éric Debègue and Cristal Publishing.
